Walk through all 12 assessment activities
Estimate only. This calculator uses the official 2026-27 DWP rates from gov.uk but cannot account for all circumstances (mixed-age couples, migration from legacy benefits, immigration conditions, or sanctions). Always confirm your entitlement with DWP, Citizens Advice, or entitledto.co.uk before making financial decisions.
Step 1 of 8
What is your household situation?
This determines your standard allowance — the base amount of UC.
Select your household type
Step 2 of 8
Do you have any dependent children?
UC includes a child element for each eligible child.
This affects which child element rate applies. The two-child limit applies to children born on or after 6 April 2017 — the 3rd or later child in that group does not get a child element unless an exception applies.
Step 3 of 8
Health and disability
UC includes extra elements if you have limited capability for work.
LCWRA is awarded after a Work Capability Assessment (WCA). You need a fit note from your GP and must have reported your condition to DWP. You don't need a formal WCA decision yet — tick if you believe you qualify or are awaiting assessment.
The carer element applies if you provide at least 35 hours/week of care to someone who gets DLA (middle or higher care), PIP daily living (either rate), or Attendance Allowance.
Step 4 of 8
Housing costs
UC can help with rent through the housing element.
The LHA is the maximum rent UC will cover. Find your rate at lha-direct.voa.gov.uk using your postcode and bedroom need. Leave blank if you don't know — we'll use your actual rent.
Step 5 of 8
Childcare costs
UC can cover up to 85% of eligible childcare costs.
Both parents must be working (or one parent working if single). Childcare must be with an Ofsted-registered provider. Enter 0 if none.
Step 6 of 8
Earnings
UC uses your net earnings (after income tax and National Insurance). Earnings above your work allowance reduce your UC by 55p for every pound.
Take-home pay after tax and NI. Enter 0 if you're not working.
Step 7 of 8
Savings and capital
Savings above £6,000 reduce your UC. Above £16,000, you are not entitled to UC.
Include cash savings, stocks and shares ISAs, second properties (at market value). Exclude your main home, personal possessions, and money in a Help to Save account.
⚠️ Savings over £16,000 means you are not entitled to UC.

Step 1 of 3 · Basic information
About you
A few quick details to estimate your PIP and Universal Credit.
PIP has two components — choose which apply to you.
Choose based on how much difficulty you have. Assessors consider whether you can do activities safely, reliably, repeatedly, and to an acceptable standard.
Estimate only. These categories are a simplification — actual PIP eligibility depends on scoring enough points across 12 individual activities assessed by DWP. This tool gives an indicative figure only.
Step 2 of 3 · Living situation
Where and how you live
This helps estimate your Universal Credit housing element.
Used as a rough proxy for local rent levels. You can find your band at gov.uk.
Step 3 of 3 · Employment
Work and earnings
UC is reduced by 55p for every £1 you earn above your work allowance.
We'll estimate take-home pay using a simplified tax/NI calculation. For UC, your net (after tax and NI) earnings are used.
